    Ball Pythons

Ball Pythons or  Python regius are amazing pets that originate from Africa. Today they come in many different morphs, and colors.  When you get a ball python, you get a long-term friend. On average they can get between 3-5' long and can live 25+ years.

    Ball Python Care

Provide a large enclosure, with a 4'x2'x2' tank being a good size for an adult. Ensure the enclosure is secure to make the snake feel safe, which encourages movement and feeding. Multiple hides (one warm, one cool), climbing opportunities, and foliage will help your snake feel comfortable. Use loose substrate that retains humidity, such as coconut fiber,  or a mix of organic topsoil and sand. Spot clean waste as needed.  If you make the enclosure bioactive, you clean much less.

Create a warm side in the enclosure, with a basking spot at 90−92∘F and an ambient temperature of

80−85∘F. The cool side should be kept between

70−80∘F. Use a thermostat to regulate heating.

Humidity: Maintain 40−60% humidity, increasing to around 70%during shedding. A hygrometer is needed to measure humidity levels

Provide a day/night cycle by having lights on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours. Some research suggests that low-wattage UVA/UVB lighting can also be beneficial. Use a heating element with no light, like a ceramic heat emitter, for nighttime heating to avoid disturbing your snake.

Include clutter like cork bark, branches, and plants to help the snake feel secure and encourage natural behaviors like climbing.

Provide a large water bowl that the snake can soak in, changing the water frequently. Feed your ball python appropriately sized prey, such as rats or mice, based on its age and size.
